In practice, IP65 is often used as a baseline protection level in industrial systems. Typical scenarios include control cabinets, sensor connections or machinery components installed in production environments where dust and occasional cleaning occur. In these cases, higher protection classes would not provide additional benefit but would increase cost and complexity.
The limitation of IP65 becomes relevant as soon as water exposure increases. Applications involving temporary immersion, heavy rain or high-pressure cleaning require higher protection classes such as IP67, IP68 or IP69K. Choosing the correct IP rating is therefore not only a question of protection, but also of efficiency and long-term reliability.
